Potential Chorus Members

If you have always loved singing, or have never tried it before and are keen to give it a go, Paisley Opera offers the chance to be part of something ambitious, supportive and full of heart. Our community chorus is central to everything we do, bringing people together to learn, rehearse and perform as part of a shared creative effort.

We recently surveyed our Chorus Members who participated in Carmen (May 2026), about what Paisley Opera means to them and what they’ve got out of it – here are just a few of their responses:

• It rebuilt my confidence and purpose at a time where life had been very hard health wise. It gave me friends, a reminder of what gives me joy and I have built a community of people who I call friends. It is a very special place where all are included and appreciated – Paisley Opera does this exceptionally well and nothing is false, or forced – genuinely all are welcome!
• Paisley opera has given me something joyful completely for myself, embedded in a wonderful, supportive community. As a carer I really needed that, and it has been lovely to feel there are people who also care about ME.
• Great camaraderie – easy people to talk to – (I) know when I go on a Monday people will welcome me
• I love the joyousness and seriousness with which we approach the music – we work really hard on beautiful music and it is SO much fun.
• The singing tuition was so professional and everyone really wanted to do well. It was like the musicality and singing was at the forefront of what we were doing with no judgement. Rather than an afterthought to a social group meet-up.
• It has reignited my passion for music and performing music. Ego aside I felt really proud of my performance of Carmen.

We rehearse weekly on a Monday evening, at the Falcon Centre in Paisley with additional weekend and evening rehearsals in the run up to a performance.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve only ever sung at a football match, in church, in the shower or not since school, and you don’t need to read music – although people often learn a bit as a side affect – our brilliant professional team will teach you what you need to know and you’ll be singing surrounded by your voice part for the learning period. We’ll provide the sheet music, words and learning tracks so you can practice in the way that suits you best. People join the chorus and amaze themselves, as chorus member Rashelle says; “when people sing together, magic happens”.

We are committed to making the Chorus as accessible as possible – there is a small suggested voluntary donation if you are able to donate but we are committed to ensure it remains fully voluntary, and we will work with you on reasonable adjustments for any disability you are comfortable disclosing to us. All we ask is that you come along, give us a go and then, if you like us, commit to regular rehearsals and giving it your best – and of course socialising at tea-break!
